Regulation

The European AI Act reaches a new milestone

August 2, 2026 — Starting August 2nd, a new set of transparency obligations comes into force in the European Union. Chatbots and automated assistants will need to clearly disclose to the user that they're talking with an AI rather than a person. Content generated or modified by AI (image, audio, video, text) will also need to be technically identifiable.

Another notable change: the European Commission gains more direct oversight power over providers of large general-purpose models, with the ability to request information or impose sanctions for non-compliance. The heaviest obligations, concerning high-risk systems, remain postponed to 2027 and 2028.

What this concretely changes for your website. If your website uses a chatbot or an automated form to respond to visitors, a simple disclosure (“you're talking with an automated assistant”) becomes necessary. And if text or visuals on the site were AI-generated, it's better to anticipate this disclosure requirement than to discover it after the fact. It's a point we already build into the projects we deliver.

New models

The busiest month of the year for frontier models

Late June to late July 2026 — Within a few weeks, almost every major lab released a new generation of models. For us, this translates very concretely: it's what lets us keep designing your websites faster and at a tight price, without cutting corners on the final quality.

  • Claude Sonnet 5 (Anthropic) — became the default model on the Free and Pro plans starting June 30th, replacing the previous generation.
  • Claude Opus 5 (Anthropic) — released July 24th, positioned as Anthropic's most advanced current model.
  • GPT-5.6 (OpenAI) — rolled out July 9th across ChatGPT, Codex, and the API, offered in several power and price tiers.
  • Grok 4.5 (xAI) — launched July 8th, in the same window as OpenAI's and Anthropic's announcements.

The real trend worth remembering. Mid-tier models, which are cheaper, are increasingly approaching top-of-the-line quality. That's what lets us offer increasingly polished templates without raising our prices, unlike an agency that passes every technical cost increase on to its quote.

Worth watching

Toward AI that acts, not just responds

An underlying trend is confirming itself this month: new models are increasingly built to carry out tasks end-to-end, including finding a service provider and recommending them directly. For a website, that means one simple thing: if your services and service area aren't clearly written on pages these AIs can easily read, you simply don't exist in their answers. It's a point we systematically work on for the websites we deliver.

What to remember. Between European compliance and more capable, more accessible models, August 2026 confirms what we observe project after project: a website is no longer just a storefront, it's also what determines whether an AI recommends you or ignores you completely.
